We usually reply within two business days. It helps if you mention your iPhone model, your iOS version, and which sound pattern you were running.

Before anything else

If your iPhone has lasting distortion, will not charge properly, shows display trouble, gets hot, or shuts down unexpectedly — stop using the app and contact Apple Support or a repair professional.

Those are signs of a problem sound cannot reach, and running more tones costs you time you could spend getting it looked at.

Frequently asked

I ran a pattern and my speaker still sounds muffled.

That can happen, and ToneFlush will not pretend otherwise. A few things worth trying:

  1. Turn the volume up. The tone has to move air to do anything, and the app shows a readiness meter for exactly this reason.
  2. Hold the phone with the speaker pointing down, over a cloth, so gravity is working with you rather than against you.
  3. Try a different pattern. A sweep covers more ground than a single tone, and speaker hardware differs between iPhone models.
  4. Give it a rest. After a few runs back to back the app suggests letting the phone dry instead, and that advice is worth taking.

If it is still muffled after all that, the water may not be the problem — or it may be somewhere sound cannot reach. That is the point at which a repair professional is a better use of your time than another tone.

Why will it not play through my AirPods or a Bluetooth speaker?

Because it would achieve nothing. The tone only helps if it comes out of the speaker with the water in it, so ToneFlush checks the audio route before every session and refuses to start when audio is going anywhere else. Disconnect the other device and the Start button comes back on its own.

Why is the app telling me to turn the volume up?

A quiet tone moves very little air, so below a certain volume a session is not worth running. No app can change your volume for you — there is no public way to do it, and ToneFlush does not reach for a private one — so it shows you where you are and leaves the buttons on the side of your phone to you.

Why can I only run the free pattern every other day?

The free version includes Quick Blast, and it comes back every other day: run it today and it is available again the day after tomorrow. The wait is measured from the start of the day the run happened, so it lands at midnight rather than in the middle of an evening.

Unlocking the app removes the wait and adds the other three patterns. It is a single payment — nothing renews, and there is nothing to cancel.

How do I restore my purchase?

If you have bought the unlock before — on this iPhone or another one signed in to the same Apple Account — open Settings inside the app and tap Restore purchases.

The purchase is tied to your Apple Account, so it follows you to a new iPhone without being bought again. If restoring does not bring it back, email us and we will sort it out.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are requested from Apple rather than from us: go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple Account. We do not see your payment details and cannot issue the refund ourselves, but do tell us what went wrong — it is how the app gets better.

What does the Speaker Test actually measure?

It plays a ladder of tones out of each speaker your iPhone lets an app address — the earpiece at the top, then the loudspeaker at the bottom — and measures what comes back through the microphone. The first run becomes your baseline; run a pattern, test again, and each speaker gets a before, an after and the change between them.

These are relative readings from an uncalibrated microphone. They only compare with each other, and only if the phone sat in the same place at the same volume both times. They cannot tell trapped water from a case, dust or a finger over the grille — and when the room is too loud or the input too hot to measure properly, the app says so instead of showing you a number it cannot stand behind.

Why does it show only two speakers?

Because two is how many an iPhone has. The holes on the other side of the bottom edge are a microphone, not a second speaker, and there is no public way to drive one half of that grille on its own. A third row would be the same speaker measured twice and presented as two.

Does the app record me?

No. The microphone is used in one place — the Speaker Test — and it is asked for the first time you tap Run test, never at launch. While a run is going, audio is held in memory just long enough to be measured, about a second at a time, and is then overwritten. It is never written to a file, never kept after the run, and never sent anywhere. What survives is a handful of decibel figures, stored on your iPhone. If you decline the microphone, everything else in the app keeps working.

How do I delete my data?

Delete the app. Your settings and your speaker-test readings live in the app's own storage and go with it, including the anonymous identifier the usage data is grouped under. If you also want the purchase record or the usage events deleted from our side, email us — the privacy policy explains what each one contains.

Is my iPhone waterproof now?

No. ToneFlush changes nothing about how your iPhone resists water — it plays a sound, and that is the entire extent of it.
